Who We Are
San Antonio OASIS offers stimulating programs in the arts, humanities, health, technology and volunteer service. Available volunteer opportunities include the Intergenerational Tutoring Program, computer assistance and clerical help at the Center. The Intergenerational Tutoring Program trains older adults for 12 hours and prepares OASIS tutors to work one-on-one with children in first, second and third grade one hour a week. This tutoring program is designed to be a motivating factor for reading and language improvement. Currently, 56 schools in the Northside, San Antonio, Alamo Heights, and Edgewood school districts participate in this program. No prior teaching experience is required, just a willingness to help a child succeed in school.
What We Do
Our mission is to enrich the lives of older adults. OASIS is a national education organization dedicated to enriching the lives of adults age 50 and over through lifelong learning and service. San Antonio OASIS began in 1992 and currently has over 19,000 members. Membership to OASIS is free. A catalog comes out three times a year with over 500 classes; some offered at no cost; some at a nominal fee.
