Goodwill's mission is to help change lives through the power of work. We do that by providing educational programs and services that assist people in building careers and finding better jobs in San Antonio, whether they're just entering the workforce or pursuing new career options. The professionals at Goodwill help people fulfill their potential with job preparation, placement, retention and advancement services.

In addition to serving individuals throughout our community, we offer special assistance to those who may face additional challenges gaining employment, such as:

• Disabilities (physical, mental, cognitive)
• Life crises, such as loss of job, divorce, the loss of a spouse, financial hardship
• Veterans transitioning back into civilian life after military service
• Little or no education
• Transitioning from welfare or chronic poverty

In addition, Goodwill offers services to meet the specific needs of other special-needs populations including non-violent ex-offenders who are re-entering society and homeless individuals.

Goodwill San Antonio was founded in 1945 on the South Side of San Antonio. Since then, we have expanded to serve the entire city and beyond, including New Braunfels, Seguin and Laredo.  With a dream to end discrimination, a few business leaders and $5,000, Bill Sinkin had the courage of conviction to start Goodwill in San Antonio.

The idea was simple—collect used clothing, repair it and sell it.

This vision provided not only clothing at a price that was affordable to the city’s poor, it also made work available for those most in need. From this humble start in 1945, Goodwill has continued its mission to help change lives through the power of work. Today, over 52,000 people a year are assisted by Goodwill. We all owe a debt of gratitude to Bill Sinkin for his vision and the legacy that is Goodwill.
