We can suggest where to look for free or inexpensive books, or if you already have some, you can share those too. You can find book-sharing boxes near you using our world map or free mobile app. Volunteers over 18 anywhere in the U.S. where there are Little Free Libraries can register for this opportunity.

In-class volunteers will assist in facilitating after-school programs and services for our students. All of our programs and services are centered around technology concepts. House of Neighborly Service is looking for volunteers to deliver home-cooked meals to seniors who are homebound, no longer drive, or do not have access to transportation.

The only requirement is to fill out an application and have a driver’s license. You can deliver meals alone or pair up with someone. Deliveries begin at 10:30 a.m., and each route typically takes about an hour to an hour and a half.

NOTE: All meals are within the 78207 zip code. Our coolers, which hold the meals, are 42 inches long, 19 inches wide, and 20 inches deep (Igloo 150-Qt. Maxcold Performance Cooler). The mission of THRU Project is to provide youth aging out of foster care at least one caring adult to be that connection between the youth and the services they so desperately need and to help them achieve a life of independence. We connect youth with a caring adult through the THRU Project mentoring program. 

Volunteer Mentors agree to meet with their youth in person at least once per month and augment those visits with a minimum of three phone calls, texts or emails per month. Mentors will focus on becoming a trusted role model to the youth and assist them in accessing the programs and resources available to former foster youth. Monday through Friday hundreds of volunteers set out in their own vehicles to deliver hot nutritious meals and breakfast packs to home bound, frail, elderly and persons with disabilities. Meals on Wheels drivers not only deliver nutritious food that our clients desperately need, but also provide much needed daily daily contact that improves their overall well-being. Volunteers are needed to donate their lunch hour once a week or every other week between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Meals on Wheels has 9 meal pick up sites, many of which are local churches and businesses within Bexar County.

Many people, as they get older, find themselves with fewer regular and positive interactions with other people. Family, friends, and social connections that once brought a sense of purpose and connection can leave us feeling empty by their loss. Whether it be loss through death or divorce, or friends moving away, we have all felt disconnected at some point in time. 

Silver Connect is a new program that offers older adults a chance to connect with friendly volunteers for emotional support, reassurance and opportunities to share life's experience and to feel engaged and connected through sincere, lively and heartfelt conversation.

Currently we are looking for volunteers for the Silver Connect program. If you are interested in reaching out with support to someone who may be lonely, we want to hear from you! You may be the person someone is looking for, and this may be just what you are looking for.

Training will occur at: Oasis at the Meadows - 700 Babcock Rd. Please bring your own lunch; only light snacks will be provided. 

The OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program promotes literacy with a proven approach to help children read at grade level. Since 1993, the San Antonio OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring has paired adults age 50 and older with children in grades 1-3 to promote success in reading. Volunteers are needed to spend one hour a week with the same child throughout the school year. OASIS Tutors have been helping children build reading skills, self-esteem and positive attitudes toward learning.

You will need to pass a background check, (no cost to you), attend orientation and tutor training. Once you are trained, you select a school from our extensive list in 2 school districts then use books, learning materials, and supplies all provided by OASIS to help a child learn to read.

The recently renovated Harvey E. Najim Library at the Transitional Living and Learning Center (TLLC) is now open for residents to check out books. Make a difference by monitoring visits between parents and children, giving children the opportunity to see their parent(s). Kidshare is a program that helps families in special circumstances, especially those in conflict or going through divorce, by creating a neutral, safe setting where children and parents can spend time together. Exchange monitors will engage children and monitor them during the exchange time between divorced parents or parents in conflict at a safe, neutral site. Some preparation and clean up assistance may be required.

Thank you for your interest in helping out our organization!  We hold equine therapy lessons Mon-Fri with the help of volunteers, but we still need volunteers to help us on the weekends with horse/barn chores.  Basically, you will help bring the horses in from the paddocks, feed them, clean paddocks, put hay out, fill water troughs and buckets.  After the horses are done eating in their stalls, you will take them back out to the paddocks and then come back to barn to clean up their stalls and the barn area.  Minimum age is 16 yr.

There are a total of four weekend shifts to choose from:

Saturday AM shift is 7-11am  /  Saturday PM shift is 4-6 pm (during hot weather we move it to 5-7 pm)

Sunday AM shift is 7:30-9:30am  /  Sunday PM shift is 3:30-5:30pm

Now it’s even easier for Girl Scout volunteers to introduce girls to the wonders of hiking and camping. Whether you’re a camping pro, or just starting out, you can help adults have a positive experience in the great outdoors.

Our council's facilitators and trainers play a crucial role in the delivery of the Girl Scout Outdoor Experience. As a trainer, you'll empower adults who work with girls to deliver quality program. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to develop strong facilitation, speaking, organizational and management skills.

Plan, deliver and evaluate trainings that allow adult Girl Scout members to acquire knowledge, skills and resources needed to deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Experience program effectively.

We are in need of 1-3 volunteers to perform light administrative tasks to include:

- File assembly

- Filing

- File labels creating using MS Word

- Database updating

- Copying/scanning using a copy machine

- Assisting with social media, marketing, PowerPoint slideshows and other administrative tasks for children's events and fundraising events.

Training is provided and flexible weekday schedules are welcome!  Basic familiarity/experience using a PC and solid organizational skills are important.

This volunteer opportunity is a favorite among volunteers. You shop for NESA seniors who, through no fault of their own, need someone to shop for their groceries on a weekly or monthly basis. Volunteers call the assigned client for a list and shop accordingly; they deliver the groceries to the client in their homes and may put away the groceries for the client. Shoppers are assigned to clients on a one-to-one relationship. Clients continually praise their shoppers and feel they are a part of their family. Transportation Volunteers drive and escort elderly clients, who can no longer drive, to scheduled doctor's appointments. They use their own vehicles, pick up clients at their homes, drive them to their doctor's office, remain with them and drive them back home. All clients live in northeast San Antonio. These volunteers are very special people driving very special people to needed doctor's appointments. Transportation Volunteers receive praise from clients and report great satisfaction in performing this worthwhile service to the elderly who have supported their community and made San Antonio such a wonderful place to live. One volunteer reported that it was like helping his parents. This is a true opportunity to help where help is needed, gratification is instant, and appreciation is freely expressed. Senior Center Assistant - (Year Round) 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

With the only Nationally Accredited Senior Center in South Texas, we strive to provide a safe, enjoyable and active environment for our clients. Volunteers help in all aspects of our daily program. Activities include, but are not limited to, morning walks, bingo, serving meals, arts and crafts, and activity monitors. Each of these activities are in place to stimulate the mind, body and spirit of our clients. In addition, volunteers are expected to participate and engage in programming to ensure that clients have an enjoyable experience.

At Good Samaritan, we want to set the best example for our students. Through a program that focuses on the 40 Developmental Assets set by the Search Institute, we target areas where our students might need some extra attention. Students that show signs of risk are paired with a mentor. Mentoring provides our clients with a positive adult role model in their life. By engaging with our students, our mentors will provide a demonstration of these assets, like integrity and goal setting.

Mentors must be at least 18 years of age and obtain a GED or high school diploma. They must also commit to at least four (4) consecutive monthly visits at an hour each time. 

School Year:
Mentoring is available during our Afterschool Program from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Summer:
Mentoring is available during our Camp Good Sam Program from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Assist in many different ways such as helping with scheduled Lecture Series events, daily content-specific Lab demonstrations, Super Saturdays at the museum, and outreach programs in the community. Public Program Volunteers are called upon to help as events are scheduled which may occur on Weekdays, evenings and weekends.

Assist the staff by greeting visitors to the museum, promoting membership and special exhibitions, answering general questions, and creating a welcoming and friendly environment for our visitors. These Volunteers focus on specific collections or exhibits and facilitate hands-on interactives with visitors. Specific duties include being able to answer questions and provide information on the exhibits in question. Volunteers are trained in the content area of specific exhibits and may work on weekdays, weekends, Tuesday evenings or special events.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at our organization!  We hold therapy lessons Mon-Fri starting at 4:00pm and ending at 8:00pm each weekday.  The age requirement to volunteer during therapy lessons is 17 years and over.  Volunteers assist during lessons as side walkers.  The side walker provides support to the rider as needed.

Each (M-F) evening starts at 3:00 m and lasts until 9:00 pm.  We break the evening into two shifts for our volunteers. 

The first shift of volunteers come in from 3-6 pm.  These volunteers come in and groom the horses, clean the paddocks and put the hay out.  Then they get the saddles/tack and horses ready for lessons.  Lessons are from 4-6 pm.

The second shift of volunteers take over from 6-9 pm.  These volunteers come in and get the saddles/tack and horses ready for lessons.  Lessons are from 6-8 pm.  8-9 pm they feed, turnout horses and clean stalls/barn.
