Training for those interested in becoming a Senior Companion. After being placed with your first client you will be reimbursed your transportation costs to and from training.
*Note that there will be no training over the weekend and that training on the 21st will be at The Neighborhood Place @ 3014 Rivas St, SATX.
If you are age 55 or older and willing to commit at least 15 hours a week join our family. Senior Companions help less mobile seniors with daily living tasks. They play games, have meaningful conversations, write letters or help with their favorite hobbies. They help make doctors appointments, make sure they are taking their medications as directed and provide a watchful eye to determine if any extra care is needed. Senior Companions are often the encouragement individuals need to remain active and relieve that sense of isolation. Senior Companions also provide respite to relieve caregivers for short periods of time. In return the volunteer will receive a stipend of $2.65 an hour for their service AND reimbursement for transportation. This stipend DOES NOT affect ANY benfits youmay be receiving (SSI, Social Security, VA, etc). As a bonus, meet like minded volunteers at monthly trainings and learn more about the services that are available for senior citizens in Bexar County.
